Football - Adriano Wants to stay in Italian league with Roma

Malta Independent Friday, 17 December 2010, 00:00 Last update: about 14 years ago

Roma striker Adriano says he is happy to stay with the club, despite speculation linking him with a return to the Brazilian league with Corinthians in the January transfer window.

Adriano has barely played for Roma since signing a three-year deal in the offseason and has struggled with his weight and fitness. He is also behind Francesco Totti, Mirko Vucinic, Marco Borriello and Jeremy Menez for a place in the attack.

“I’m staying with Roma and I am happy to do so,” Adriano told Corriere dello Sport. “What counts is what I say and I shall say it for the umpteenth time. Roma is and will continue to be my team.”

Italian media has raised questions over the nature of his relationship with Claudio Ranieri after the ex-Chelsea and Juventus coach left him on the bench during Roma’s Champions League win over Cluj.

The 28-year-old Adriano made his Roma debut as a substitute in the Italian Super Cup in August, but only made his full league bow on 4 December.
