Football – Bank Of Valletta Premier League - Hamrun, Sliema meet in search of victory

Malta Independent Friday, 17 December 2010, 00:00 Last update: about 15 years ago

Hamrun Spartans and Sliema Wanderers will be meeting this evening at the Victor Tedesco Stadium in Hamrun (kick-off 7.30pm) in a Bank of Valletta Premier League match.

This match gives a start to the 12th round of matches which will include two matches tomorrow (Qormi-Valletta and Birkirkara-Hibernians) and another two on Sunday (Vittoriosa S.-Tarxien R. and Marsaxlokk-Floriana).

Both clubs will be aiming for the three points this evening, especially the Wanderers who need a big boost to improve on their current lowly position in the standings.

The Spartans will be hoping to return to winning form after last week’s defeat at the hands of Tarxien Rainbows.

They also hope to be luckier this evening even if Sliema will certainly prove to be a tough nut to crack.

The Blues are coming from a 1-1 draw with Marsaxlokk and coach Mark Marlow will be hoping to see his side performing better than it did against the southern seasiders.

The Blues, like Hibernians, have been a disappointing side for most of the 11 matches played so far. Unless they show immediate improvement, they will find it very hard to achieve their aim – that of playing in the Championship Pool in the second phase.

At present Hamrun occupy fourth place on 16 points, while Sliema are eighth on 11 points.
