On Saturday the Cricket Winter league continued with Marsa CC taking on Melita CC.
The Marsa team batted first with Sarfraz Ali and Javed Shah opening the batting. Ali was the first to go scoring 15 runs from 24 balls while Shah scored at a run a ball being caught after making 21 runs.
He also scored three fours. Derek Ali scored twenty two runs from 30 balls faced. Jai Kumar (11 runs) and Ronnie Sacco (10 runs) were the only other batsmen to make it to double figures.
The bowling of Melita was not at its best and managed to give 20 extras which took the Marsa to a 108 runs. Still a moderate score and Melita Betfair were confident to knock the runs off. For Betfair the main wicket takers were Bikram Arora and Justin Brooke who both took two wickets each.
So for the second consecutive week Betfair needed just over 100 runs to win and just as the previous week fell apart and could only total 70 runs.
Malcolm Crabbe was the main scorer with 16 runs and Shawn Dowden was the only other batsmen to make it into double figures with 11 runs.
The Marsa bowling also gave 18 extras. Jai Kumar bowled well taking three wickets while Derek Ali took two.
With this win the Marsa team earned nine points to leap frog Krishna (18 points) in first position with 21 points. Melita Betfair remain bottom.
Next Saturday Marsa C.C take on Krishna C.C in the battle for top spot at the end of round two.
