Qormi 1
Hotsticks 0
Umpires: Edward Hughes, Shawn Mifsud
A ding dong affair which Qormi edged in the end, literally.
A goal three minutes from time when Keith Calleja hit a reversed stick shot from the top of the D wrong footing the Hotsticks defence and beating the partially unsighted goalkeeper.
Exchanges in the first half were more or less even with Qormi forcing four short corners to Hotsticks’ three but the latter ended the half in a flourish with Lukas Plaehn hitting the cross shot just past the post.
Early in the second half Hotsticks created a couple of scoring chances but Qormi hit back and went close to scoring themselves.
Both sides exerted periods of pressure and in the 62nd minute Hotsticks had a shot cleared off the line with the goalkeeper beaten.
They contrived to miss the chance of the miss a few seconds from the final whistle from a short corner action.
Qormi bagged the points but it would be fair to state that Hotsticks were unlucky not to achieve a better result.
White Hart 2
Rabat 3
Umpires: Reno Cremona, Silvano Vassallo
White Hart managed to snatch defeat from the jaws of victory.
After falling behind to a Kyle Amango goal in the eighth minute, they recovered from that early setback to equalise in the 24th minute. Luke Borg Costanzi netted after a short corner action and White Hart more than held their own up to the interval.
In the 38th minute White Hart’s goal keeper Robert Vassallo Agius pulled off the save of the match by diving to his right and pushing away a shot which had goal written all over it.
White Hart’s reaction was to surge forward and take the lead in 43rd minute with David Agius finishing off a move from close range following a short corner action.
Following a period of short corner exchanges, with White Hart still exerting pressure the game was suddenly turned on its head, Charlot Antonelli equalised for Rabat in the 55th minute following a neat move which opened up the White Hart defence.
After applying further pressure, Rabat scored the winning goal when Mario Galea shot the ball into the top left corner of the net.
