The ASA national team, presently participating in the 10th FINA World Championships (Short Course) being held in Dubai, achieved 10 national records in the first two days of the competition.

On the first day, Andrea Agius broke the 100m breast strike record when clocking 1:03..38 while Mark Sammut broke the 100m backstroke in a time of 58.86. Andrew Chetcuti clocked 56.98 in the 100m fly while Edward Caruana Dingli clocked 1:54.32 in the 200m freestyle. Nicola Muscat clocked 1:05.54 in the 100m backstroke – the latter broke the old Gail Rizzo record of 1:06.40 set in 1996.

Also, the 4x100m freestyle team broke the national record after clocing 3:31.50. The team consisted of Andrea Agius, Andrew Chetcuti, Mark Sammut and Neil Agius.

On the second day of competition, Andrew Chetcuti broke the 50m freestyle record in 23.14 secs, while Nicola Muscat clocked 29.77 seconds for the 50m butterfly and 58.85 seconds for the 100m freestyle.

Neil Agius, Edward Caruana Dingli, Andrea Agius and Mark Sammut also broke the 4x200m freestyle record in a time of 7:48.63.
