Mosta came back on track yesterday when they beat lowly Dingli Swallows to go second in the standings behind runaway leaders St George’s. Without setting any houses on fire Mosta made amends for last Wednesday’s unlucky defeat against the leaders, by crushing Dingli.

The Swallows are in deep relegation trouble, and this time Giorev’s guidance failed to make the difference like it did in the KnockOut competition when Dingli eliminated Pieta Hotspur.

For Dingli this was their fifth defeat from six matches and Giorev needs to work harder. The side lacked ideas with Chris Azzopardi, Chris Ciappara and Chirinofailing to make an impact on the rather hesitant Mosta defence.

On their part Mosta were very efficient from dead ball situations, scoring with two headers from two defenders in the first half from similar situations.

Dingli had the first shot at goal with a Formosa freekick testing Mosta goalkeeper Debono. On 12 minutes a Simon Shead header hit the upright. Dingli’s Chirino hesitated in front of goal missing a good opportunity for Dingli.

On 17 minutes a Gilbert Martin angled shot hit the side netting and two minutes later Mosta took the lead. A Mark Briggs cross was well met by Adrian Borg whose header beat Farrugia with the ball hitting the base of the upright before finishing at the back of the net

On 24 minutes Dingli missed a golden opportunity when Chris Ciappara beat Mark Brincat on the run but his shot with only Debono to beat was well saved by the Mosta custodian.

Six minutes from the break Mosta doubled the score when a Ryan Deguara cross was met by defender Kane Farrugia who beat a helpless Jeffrey Farrugia with a precise header.

On the resumption Dingli went close when Mosta goalkeeper punched a Kevin Borg cross and the ball came in Kurt Formosa’s path, whose effort slightly missed the crossbar.

On 63 minutes Mosta added a third when a Lee Grima cross was handled by Kurt Formosa and from the resultant penalty Mark Briggs made no mistake with a low shot.

The match was nw won and lost as Mosta continued to dominate to gain three points that put them in second place.
