Airgun Shooting - Christmas Competition at Bidnija range

Malta Independent Wednesday, 22 December 2010, 00:00 Last update: about 14 years ago

An exciting air-rifle and air-pistol competition was organised at the Bidnija Airgun Ranges last Saturday.

Considering the extremely cold and humid weather in the range, some terrific scores were registered especially by the lady shooters in both air-rifle and air-pistol.

Hungarian born Marianna Kisvarda, right, who is now living in Malta, shot her first competition in this country for a Maltese record score of 383/400 (and a 577/600) in air-rifle.

William Vella also made headway in achieving a solid 574/600, placing ahead of Lawrence Darmanin with a 545/600 and Michael Xuereb with a 517/600.

However in the final, some excellent shooting by William Vella managed to grab first placing with his last shot of the 10-shot final, to edge Marianna by a mere 1.1 points to take first place.

In the air-pistol event, Eleanor Bezzina produced one of her personal best shoots to score an excellent 371/400, but unfortunately the cold had its toll and she faltered in her last two sets to finish with a total of 543/600. With this score she placed behind Ray Cacciattolo who shot a good 550/600 to take the overall first place while Martin Grech finished in third place with a score of 506/600. After the finals, the placings of the air-pistol shooters remained the same.

Gino Galea was the judge of these shooting competitions and it was with great satisfaction that several people came to watch these events in Bidnija.
