Gzira-Mgarr 4-0

After just four minutes Mgarr were very close as a free-kick taken by Vojko Martinovic just missed the target and in the 10th minute another free-kick, this time taken by James Borg was saved with difficulty by Kyle Gerada.

At the other end Gzira went close through a Josef Felice free-kick with Mgarr coming back through Ives Bilocca whose shot was deflected to a corner-kick.

In the 26th minute Gzira had a shot which partially saved by Carbonaro with the ball being picked up by Richard Attard whose two successive attempts were miraculously saved by the Mgarr keeper with the assistance of the upright.

Gzira now gained the upper-hand in the midfield sector and they broke the deadlock on 30 minutes through Richard Attard following a personal effoer.

Mgarr came back through a shot by Chris Abela whose shot was well saved by Gerada but in the 44th minute Gzira made it 2-0 as a Richard Attard shot was saved partially by Carbonaro and Andrew Scerri was on hand to shoot in from close-range.

After the break it was Mgarr who had the first opportunity as a free-kick taken by Vojko Martinovic just missed the target. Gradually Gzira regained the initiative and in the 57th minute they hit the post off a shot by substitute Yanis Tonna.

A minute later Gzira’s striker Andrew Scerri broke away in a swift counter-attack, rounded the Mgarr keeper, and shot in to further increase the Maroons’ lead. On 74 minutes Gzira scored a fourth goal with Andrew Scerri continuing to be the protagonist as he notched his personal hat-trick.

Six minutes from time Mgarr were close to a consolation goal but an attempt by James Borg was blocked on the goal line.

Mellieha-San Gwann 4-0

The Saints were the better team early on and after only six minutes they were unlucky as a shot by Shaun Vella hit the crossbar.

At the other end Mellieha had an angled shot by Connor Muchmore which just missed the target and in the 11th minute San Gwann were denied by Simon Gauci off an effort by Christian Cacciattolo.

Seven minutes later San Gwann were again close through Alan Borg but ii was Mellieha who took the lead on 21 minutes as a shot by their Brazilian striker Fabiano Bassi was deflected by San Gwann’s defender Miguel Francica for an unfortunate own-goal.

In their immediate reaction the Saints’ striker Joseph Chidi headed just wide and in the 32nd minute a Marco Mercieca free-kick was saved with difficulty by Gauci.

Five minutes later Mellieha increased their lead through Fabiano Bassi following a personal effort.

After the resumption the Saints dictated the run of play and after two minutes a shot by Mario Caruana just missed the target.

In the 52nd minute they were again close through Chris Cacciattolo and two minutes later Mellieha’s striker Joseph Vella shot high over the bar when all alone infront of goal. At the other end San Gwann again were close through Marco Mercieca and Shaun Vella with Mellieha making it 3-0 on 68 minutes through Fabiano Bassi from the penalty spot, a penalty given for a foul by Alan Borg on the same Mellieha striker.

At the other end San Gwann were unlucky as a shot by Mauro Busuttil bounced off the crossbar but in the 88th minute Mellieha scored a fourth goal through Joseph Vella.
