Gharghur-Ghaxaq 0-5

Gharghur dictated the run of play during the initial stages and after just six minutes successive shots by Neville Arpa and Rueben Azzopardi were cleared off the goal line.

In the 13th minute Gharghur were denied by Ghaxaq’s custodian Ludvic Fardell off a Lee Cumbo free-kick but in the 29th minute Ghaxaq opened the score through a close-range shot by Bjorn Dalli after a Brandon Bonnici free-kick had been turned onto the post by Gharghur’s keeper James Mercieca.

Four minutes later Ghaxaq made it 2-0 through Matthew Axiaq and in a counter-attack on 38 minutes Ghaxaq increased further their lead through Bjorn Dalli in a swift counter-attack.

Two minutes before the break Ghaxaq’s promising striker Bjorn Dalli notched his personal hat-trick to give his team a 4-0 lead.

Two minutes after the restart, Ghaxaq got a fifth goal with Matthew Axiaq beating James Mercieca from the edge of the penalty area.

In the 68th minute Ghaxaq were denied by James Mercieca off a shot by Brian Barbara with Gharghur responding through Fabio Grech whose effort was turned onto the post by Ghaxaq’s custodian Ludvic Fardell.

Two minutes from time Fardell brought off another fine save to deny Malcolm Tirchett.

Marsa-Pembroke Athleta 1-1

The first period was simply a monotonous affair with Marsa going close after 17 minutes through a shot by Diasmand Brincat which was saved by Jean Pierre Debattista.

Four minutes later Pembroke were denied by Keith Brincat off a shot by Steve Micallef and at the other end Marsa had two shots by Johan Camilleri which just missed the target. Just before the break Pembroke were very close following a personal effort by Malcolm Sammut.

In the initial stages of the second period Marsa wasted a clear opportunity through Larken Vella from a cross by Benoit Buhagiar and then a shot by Kirsten Brincat just missed the target.

In the 54th minute Pembroke opened the score through a beauty of a shot by Robert Zammit with Marsa’s reaction failing to produce any goal scoring opportunities.

In the 68th minute Pembroke were close through Geoffrey Spiteri but gradually Marsa pushed forward and in the 80th minute they drew level through a first-time shot by substitute Charlo Debattista from a cross by Diansand Brincat.

Late in the match Marsa were again close through Debattista.
