Swieqi and Mtarfa will be the first two Third Division teams to contest the Roger Strickland Cup, introduced on an initiative of Roger Strickland Jr. It is a competition for third division clubs.

This was launched this week at the Malta FA headquarters in Ta’ Qali. The match is to be played next Sunday at the Mtarfa Ground, starting at 10am.

Malta FA CEO Bjorn Vassallo said the association was in favour of such an idea adding that it was something positive that such ‘challenge cups’ were being revived.

Vassallo thanked Roger Strickland Jr. and both teams involved for their initiative to promote the game.
