Former Nationalist MP Renato Agius Muscat passed away yesterday morning at the age of 72.
Mr Agius Muscat, who was from Zabbar, was elected to Parliament in 1987. Between 1995 and 1997, he served as mayor on the Zabbar council.
In 1996, he was one of the recipients of a commemorative medal to mark the 75th anniversary of the re-introduction of self-government in 1921.
In a statement, the Nationalist Party expressed its condolences and praised Mr Agius Muscat (right) for his service to the country and the party.
He is the third ex MP to have passed away in two weeks.
Former Labour education minister Philip Muscat passed away on 31 December at the age of 80.
Dr Muscat was elected MP in all the general elections between 1962 and 1992. Dr Muscat served as Minister of Education under the Labour government and introduced the worker-student scheme for university and technical institute students.
Last Friday, former Nationalist MP Mario Felice (right) died at the age of 80 in the US. He was first elected to Parliament in 1971 and served as shadow finance minister until 1981.
