VLTC recently organised its annual Christmas Junior Open tournament for 2010.

This rankng event, held under the auspices of the Malta Tennis Federation, attracted the participation of a good number of promising junior players who competed in a series of events ranging from U-10 to U-16.

The U-10 girls singles was won by Helene Pellicano with Francesca Curmi ending as the runner up.

The boys’ title went to Miguel Galea. He beat Omar Abdelghani in the final.

In the U-12 category, Benjamin Farrugia had the better of Zak Ciappara.

The Under 14 and the Under 16 finals were characterised by the success of the Sammut players. Katrina staved off the challenge offered by Alexia Cassar in the girls U-14 final, winning 6-4, 1-6, 7-6, while Raphael beat Mark Schranz 6-0, 6-1 in the boy’s final.

Katrina Sammut also emerged winner in the girls’ U-16 singles event. This time she beat Maria Georgia Farrugia Sacco 6-7, 6-1, 6-2 in the decisive match. Raphael Sammut added to his success by winning the boys U-16 event, overcoming the opposition coming from Mark Schranz in a final that ended 6-0, 6-1.
