The Malta Volleyball Association organised two youth festivals before and during the festive break. A volleyball tournament for schools was held in mid-December while a second tournament for U-13 and U-15 registered players and their friends during the holidays.
Six girls’ schools (Zejtun, St Monica, St Catherine’s, Cospicua, Tarxien and San Anton School) and three Boys’ Schools ( Zebbug, Verdala and Mtarfa) brought together more than a 100 students who enjoyed a morning of volleyball.
In the girls’ section, Zejtun and St Monica were a cut above the rest. Zejtun eventually won the tournament obtaining maximum points when they beat St Monica 25-18. In the Boys section, played over two rounds, Zebbug won all their games to win their sector.
The MVA would like to thank the Physical Education Sector of the Ministry of Education for its support in organising this tournament, as well as all teachers and students who participated. The tournament was characterised by fair play and the MVA was pleased to note that it continues to see school volleyball progress .
The Annual Christmas Volleyfest for U-13 and U-15 youth players, held on Sunday 19 December, saw over 60 players made up of registered players from Fleur de Lys, Play Volley, Paola Hibs, Depiro Flyers, Southend, Skolasport and St.Margaret College Verdala and their friends. The players were divided in teams of four players each and played on six courts set up for the occasion. To add to the Christmas spirit, the games were of a non-competitive manner and the youths were grouped according to their ability.
The MVA will be holding another two school tournaments for Juniors in February and April and one for seniors in March.
Any schools wishing to participate in these tournaments, or in specific training sessions for their students is invited to write to the association on [email protected].
