The Maroons did the attacking throughout the first forty-five minutes and early on the Saints’ custodian Justin Spiteri did well to stop a header by Keith Bonello.

Then Abdul Razak twice went close and on another occasion a shot by Matthew Cocks was saved by Spiteri.

At the other end San Gwann were denied by Kyle Gerada off a conclusion by Mauro Busuttil but in the 31st minute Gzira broke the deadlock with a Richard Attard through-pass putting Roberto Brincat free and the latter managed to score after his first shot had been partially saved by Spiteri.

Gzira never looked back and after wasting an incredible open goal scoring opportunity through Abdul Razak, they also managed to go quite close through Roberto Brincat.

After the change of ends San Gwann dominated the proceedings and early on were very close through Mauro Busuttil and Andy Mangion.

Then shots by Mauro Busuttil and Joseph Chidi was saved with difficulty by Gzira’s custodian Kyle Gerada with Gzira coming back through Roberto Brincat whose effort ended just wide off the far post.

Then the Saints missed a clear goal scoring opportunity through Joseph Chidi and in the 78th minute a close-range header by Miguel Francica was saved by Gerada.

Two minutes later San Gwann got their deserved equalizing goal through Peter Xuereb whose angled shot went in past Gerada.

The Saints were then denied by the Gzira keeper off a shot by Shaun Vella and a Chris Cacciattolo free-kick with Gzira suffering a setback in the 85th minute when Cedric Sciberras was cautioned for a second time and was sent off.

Four minutes into added time San Gwann gained a corner-kick which was taken by Chris Cacciattolo and Miguel Francica shot in from close-range for the Saints’ winning goal.

Mgarr U-Senglea Ath 1-5

Mgarr went close after just six minutes through Vosko Martinovic whose shot just missed the target.

Gradually Senglea gained the initiative and were denied by Carbonaro off a free-kick taken by Advan Cakiqi and on other occasions they were very close through Timmy Thomas.

Mgarr’s reply produced an effort by Vosko Martinovic which was saved by George Attard with Senglea breaking the deadlock on 38 minutes through a header by Advan Cakiqi after an attempt by Timmy Thomas had hit the post.

In the 44th minute Senglea could have increased their lead but Stephen Calleja’s shot finished just high over the bar.

After the resumption Senglea played the better football with their twin strikers Timmy Thomas and Advan Cakiqi causing havoc in the Mgarr defence eveytime they were in action.

Infact it was Timmy Thomas who made it 2-0 for Senglea on 50 minutes following a solo run on the left flank and then they were again quite close on two occasions through Advan Cakiqi.

In the 69th minute Advan Cakiqi got Senglea’s third goal with an angled shot and in the 74th minute Timmy Thomas took advantage from an erroneous back-pass by Mgarr’s defender Chris Sant to make it 4-0.

Mgarr reduced the arrears in the 81st minute through a low shot by Chris Abela but in the 83rd minute Advan Cakiqi got Senglea’s fifth goal and his personal hat-trick.

Zebbug R-Zejtun C 0-3

After just three minutes the Corinthians’ Albanian striker Oldi Majtara shot at goal with the Zebbug keeper bringing off a difficult save.

Zejtun were then close through Kenneth Abela with Zebbug coming back through a Haruna Doda free-kick which just missed the target.

On 27 minutes Zejtun broke the deadlock as Oldi Majtara hit home from the edge of the penalty area but barely two minutes later Majtara retaliated on a Zebbug player and was shown a straight red card.

Despite this handicap, Zejtun retained the initiative and again went close through Kenneth Abela whose conclusion was saved by Bartolo.

Gradually Zebbug pushed forward with a shot by Mark Deguara finishing just wide and then on other occasions dangerous attempts by Mark Deguara and Haruna Doda were well saved by the Corinthians’ custodian Ranier Farrugia.

After the change of ends Zebbug reacted but early on Zejtun were denied by Bartolo off a conclusion by Kenneth Abela.

Zebbug came back through George Saliba who hit high over the bar from close-range and in the 63rd minute a low shot by Clint Caruana was blocked on the goal line by Zejtun’s central defender Jason Cachia.

In the 73rd minute Zebbug were again close to an equaliser through Bjorn Chetcuti but in a counter-attack in the 79th minute Zejtun made it 2-0 with Kenneth Abela’s first shot being saved partially by Bartolo but the Zejtun striker scored from his second attempt.

In the 87th minute Zejtun were denied by Bartolo off an Edward Azzopardi free-kick but in added time Zejtun had added yet another goal as Azzopardi crossed from the left flank and substitute Carmel Formosa scored from close-range for a convincing 3-0 final scoreline.

Naxxar L-Zurrieq 3-2

Early on Naxxar were denied by Ruben Debono off a shot by Andre Rocha Da Silva but in their first attack in the 17th minute Zurrieq broke the deadlock through an angled shot by Alistair Camilleri in a swift counter-attack.

Naxxar pressed forward, going very close through Andre Rocha Da Silva from a well-taken free-kick and then Glenn Magri all alone shot wide.

On 28 minutes the Lions were unlucky as a shot by Victor Bellia it the crossbar and a minute later Zurrieq could have increased their lead but Ryan Sciberras all alone shot straight into Kevin Agius.

Then Zurrieq scored through Ray Attard but Alistair Camilleri was in an offside position and the goal was disallowed.

A minute into injury-time Zurrieq made it 2-0 through Alistair Camilleri with a close-range shot.

A minute into the second period Naxxar won a free-kick which was taken by Adrian Fenech an John Debono’s header just missed the target.

However in the 49th minute Naxxar managed to score through Andre Rocha Da Silva with a shot from the edge o the penalty area and a minute later Naxxar’s striker Gilbert Camilleri all alone shot straight into Debono.

However in the 55th minute Naxxar made it two-all through Andre Rocha Da Silva and in the 79th minute Da Silva did all the work for Gilbert Camilleri to hit home the winning goal.
