The only Maltese player who reached the quarterfinals of the European Under 17 tournament being held at the Apple Snooker Club in Bugibba, Chris Peplow, was eliminated after losing 4-2 (74-40, 23-72, 33-65, 34-44, 63-23 and 38-64) to Liam Clark of England.
The other Maltese players also did well when in the group stages Luke Borg defeated Ross Doyle 3-0 and lost 2-3 to Liam Clark and 1-3 to Rhys Clark. Both Rhys Clark and Liam Clark reached the semifinals. Ryan Pisani did well in beating James Paul (England) 3-0 while losing 2-3 to Glenn Dossche and 1-3 to Olli-Pekka Virho. Matthew Zammit also did well in beating Dylan Scully of Ireland 3-2.
Last year no Maltese player reached the quarterfinals while in 2007 Thurston Grixti finished in third place after beating Nicky Godeyne of Belgium 3-1 in the match for third/fourth place. In 2008 and 2009 Shaun Sultana finished fourth and fifth respectively.
In the other three quarterfinals Zak Barton (England) beat Olli-Pekka Virho (Finland) 4-0, Rhys Clark (Scotland) beat Ruberg Schachar (Israel) and Ross Muir (Scotland) beat Glenn Dossche of Belgium 4-0.
