Today’s big race at Kempton Park will herald the crowning of Kauto Star as the favourite takes on 10 runners to make it five wins in a row.
The bay horse, bred in France by Mrs. Hanri Aubert and trained by champion Paul Nicholls, has so far won over £2 million but
this could be his last race as owner Clive Smith would want to retire the wonder horse on a winning note.
Nicholls firmly believes that Kauto Star (1.66) is at his best and in fact the postponement of the race on Boxing Day has been a blessing in disguise as his horse has settled down nicely and that the soft going will suit ‘Star’.
Like the previous King George races, Kauto Star’s odds will not be to the liking of his many thousands of fans. In fact most book makers have opened a book without the big favourite. Should Kauto Star prove a big disappointment to his fans, then second favourite Long Run ( 6.50) will have no difficulty in grabbing the big prize.
