BarCelona Lounge − Not if you’re extraordinary!

Malta Independent Sunday, 16 January 2011, 00:00 Last update: about 13 years ago

BarCelona Lounge in Paceville is an attractive wine bar and restaurant, unlike the security guards or the owner himself, who have very unattractive attitudes and are pretty conservative to say the least!

Do not go before removing any piercing, tunnel earrings etc... you’d be better off booking somewhere else if you wear any of the latter!

It was disappointing when the security guard turned us away last Sunday and guess what... we had a table reservation for eight, which was reserved for us all day until the time we arrived! So many other people wanted our table but the management was nice enough to hold it for us and stupid enough to turn us away!!

“You can’t go in! We have a dress code here and you are certainly not allowed in wearing a tunnel earring,” said the security guard. “We have no dress code here!” said the manager, “and the security guard can refuse you entry at any time,” he added.

Nevertheless some of our friends were already inside and tried sorting this out without any luck, as the manager decided to leave everything to the security guard. Our friend wearing the tunnel was smartly dressed and didn’t even try to argue. We were all happy to leave and go elsewhere, and it turned out to be a great night out anyway!

I suggest you stay away from this lounge because white tennis shoes and ragged jeans are allowed in such a place − our friends were all dressed nicely and ready to have a good night and were very frustrated when one of us was turned away! Is this discrimination? What is the manager’s involvement if the security guard is giving orders? What is identified as dress code and how is this monitored?

We’re so keen to know more about this and whether BarCelona Lounge had the right to refuse entry to one of us! Perhaps they should upload some T&C on their website!
