Allow me to refer to the letter titled: ‘The New Year’s parties’ by correspondent Peter Barbara (TMID, 13 January) and, in particular, to the phrase titled: “And the Valletta mayor came up with the brilliant idea to hold another party at a stone’s throw away; this after the necessary permits had already been issued to the Floriana local council to hold this event.” Then he says that Floriana should not have been granted permission to hold the celebration….

I would like to point out that (after having obtained permission to do so from Floriana mayor, Nigel Holland) by 26 March 2010 I had already informed (in writing), Commissioner of Police John Rizzo and Transport Malta chairman Mark Portelli that the Floriana local council was about to organise “Malta’s New Year’s Eve celebration” for the second time on Friday 31 December 2010 in St Anne Street, Floriana.
