Malta DanceSport has once again been selected to organise a top international Ballroom and Latin American competition in Malta.
This follows the success obtained last year when it organised the first competition over here.
DanceSport Team International, in collaboration with the International DanceSport Federation (IDSF) have again selected Malta as the venue for next month’s competition.
Last year, 275 foreign couples from different countries took part. This year, according to Chris Zammit, organiser of the event, 350 couples are expected to take part apart from between 30 and 50 Maltese couples. Some world champions, including Raimondo Todaro from the popular Rai Uno programme “Ballando con le Stelle”, are also expected to take part.
There will be 25 adjudicators from different countries – all professionals in this field and all qualified and recommended by the IDSF.
Zammit said the local federation was proud to hear that all participants and adjudicators wanted to be part of the Malta event this year.
He also said that local spectators now have the opportunity to watch live what is normally seen on various television programmes.
The competition will be organised between 19 and 20 February at the Ballroom of the Grand Hotel Excelsior in Floriana.
Zammit said a training camp is being held before the competition, between Wednesday 16 February and Friday 18 February where famous professional coaches will be teaching individually as well as holding group lessons. A diploma will be presented to those attending the training camp.
He also said the local federation was also preparing to hold another training camp in April or May.
Admission tickets will be on sale from 1 February and anyone interested should contact Chris or Loraine on 99824984 or 99456909 immediately as seats are limited.
Zammit thanked the sponsors of the event – Malta Tourism Authority, KMS, MDA, Grand Hotel Excelsior, AirMalta, The Fotografer, Browns, Studio Seven and Bank of Valletta for their support.
