Maltese Olympic Committee News: Courses in Olympia for educators and young participants

The Maltese Olympic Committee is inviting applications from anyone interested in attending the 9th International Session for Educators and Officials of Higher Institutes of Physical Education in Olympia

Applicants for this session must be:

1) A representative of the academic staff of a Higher Institute of Physical Education

2) An educator in Physical Education and/or Sport. Applicants should show a special interest in the aims of the International Olympic Academy as well as in current issues of Olympism. Moreover, they should have a genuine interest in the educational aspects of the activities organised in the course of the Session, as well as show interest in getting involved with the Maltese Olympic Movement. 

The main topic of the session will be “Olympism”, with a special topic to be discussed in depth being “How can sporting tradition of different cultures enrich Olympic Education.”

The Maltese Olympic Committee also invites applications from anyone interested in attending the 51st International Session for youth participants in Olympia.

Applicants must be between the age of 20 to 35 years old and should show a special interest in the aims of the International Olympic Academy as well as in current issues of Olympism. Moreover, they should have a genuine interest in the educational aspects of the activities organised in the course of the session, as well as show interest in getting involved with the Maltese Olympic Movement. 

The main topic of the session will be “Olympism”, with a special topic to be discussed in depth being “International Olympic Academy - 50 years of Olympic Education.”

Participants for both sessions must have an excellent knowledge of either English or French since they are expected to take active part in the discussion groups which follow the lectures.

The session for Educators and Officials of Higher Institutes of Physical Education will be held between 2 and 9 June 2011 while the Session for Young Participants will be held from 25 June to 9 July 2011.

The Opening Ceremonies are to be held in Athens and the sessions will be held in ancient Olympia.

For the session for Educators and Officials of Higher Institutes of Physical Education travel costs are to be paid by applicant/s while for the session for Young Participants, the Maltese Olympic Committee will cover 50% of the cost of the air-ticket for one male and/or one female participant. However all accommodation and boarding of participants for both courses, both in Athens and in Olympia, will be at the charge of the Maltese Olympic Committee for the duration of the session.

Applications together with a Sport CV must reach Joseph Cassar, Secretary General, Maltese Olympic Committee, at MOC Headquarters, c/o National Swimming Pool Complex, Maria Teresa Spinelli Street, Gzira GZR 1711, by not later than 7 and 18 February 2011 respectively.

The application must also include a proposal of how the candidate intends to contribute to the Olympic Movement in Malta after returning from this course.
