Senglea Ath-Rabat Ajax 1-0

Senglea had the first opportunity with Alan Spiteri’s shot being saved with difficulty by Rabat’s goalkeeper Jonathan Azzopardi.

At the other end Rabat were close as a shot by Emeka Basil Onuta was saved by George Attard, the latter again doing well in the 26th minute off an Adam Smeir direct free-kick. Rabat kept pushing forward with Smeir again going very close whereas on another occasion they wasted the easiest of chances through David Azzopardi.

A minute before the interval the Senglea custodian brought off yet another difficult save to deny Adam Smeir.

After the break the match was well fought out in the midfield sector. Early on Senglea were close through a Stephen Calleja free-kick which was saved with difficulty by the Rabat keeper.

In the 58th minute Senglea opened the score through Ricardo Severino from the penalty spot after the same player had been fouled in the penalty area.

From then onwards Rabat dictated the run of play and in the 70th minute a cross by David Azzopardi was headed on by Emeka Basil Onuta with George Attard bringing off a difficult save.

Two minutes later Rabat could have scored but Yessous Camilleri shot high over the bar from close-range and in the 83rd minute they protested for a penalty.

In the 86th minute Rabat hit the post off a headed attempt by Onuta.

St Patrick - San Gwann 3-1

San Gwann were close early on through Shaun Vella but it was St Patrick who broke the deadlock after ten minutes as a Gordon Failla free-kick was headed in by Alex Ellul.

However San Gwann’s immediate reaction led to the equalising goal scored by Joseph Chidi Achokwu seconds later with St Patrick responding in the 18th minute as an Ilyad Scicluna conclusion ended just wide off the far post.

In the 27th minute St Patrick took the lead through Gordon Failla with San Gwann coming back through various attacks, including an effort by Mauro Busuttil which ended just wide off the near post.

In the initial stages of the second period St.Patrick were constrained to defend for log stretches but San Gwann failed to create goal scoring opportunities.

In counter-attacks, the San Gwann keeper Justin Spiteri brought off difficult saves to deny Alex Ellul on three occasions but St Patrick scored a third goal on 73 minutes through a low strong shot by their captain Gordon Failla whose shot hit the foot of the post before finishing in the back of the net.

Late in the match San Gwann were denied by Joshua Galea off a Mauro Busuttil free-kick with the same player losing a glaring opportunity
