Sixteen- year old, Gianluca Dingli of BRM Virtu Ferries Racing Team, is the first Maltese Kart driver to be officially appointed with a foreign kart racing company as one of their official drivers.
RM Racing of Brescia, Italy, presented its 10 drivers for this year’s calendar during the annual fair “Kart and Race” which was held in Montichiari, Brescia. This appointment has made Gianluca proud and he is honoured to form part of this team. Gianluca will be racing along the other nine official BRM drivers under the BRM Racing Team in several tracks around Europe - especially in Italy - since BRM are based there.
BRM Sports Director Erminio Bozzoni stated that “Gianluca is a very talented youngster. We are eager to see him in action under the BRM Flag this season. Gianluca has something to be proud off when he knows that he hails from a small Island where a proper karting track does not exist.”
Bozzoni added: “When Giancluca was in Italy, he registered impressive results and also showed that he is willing to learn and improve his driving skills and results. It was natural to list him as one of the 10 BRM official drivers after reviewing the results that Gianluca obtained during the past two years.”
Malta Motorsport Federation President Tonio Cini commented: “What Gianluca has managed to achieve is quite a big task. We are very proud of Gianluca, as he never gave up even when all odds were against him. This appointment must surely be attributed to dedication and sacrifices that his parents did for their son. Without any doubt, the support that MMF has managed to bring from the Kunsill Malti ghall-iSport for our young driver has now paid off. The willingness to learn and to do better is the main characteristics of Gianluca and we are sure that he will maintain his progress and gain more experience in this venture.”
Gianluca Dingli is supported under the Youth Development Scheme of the Kunsill Malti ghall-iSport.
The young driver is very enthusiastic over his appointment with the BRM Racing Team of Italy. “I was very proud when entering the fairgrounds in Brescia, I saw that the Maltese flag was there, displayed on the official BRM stand among those of other countries. I am looking forward to proudly represent my country around Europe with the hope to bring respectful results back home.”
