By virtue of this win Dingli lead the standings on 19 points from nine games while St Lucia are second on 16 points from same number of games.

Dingli had more of the exchanges during both periods and fully deserved the verdict.

The first action came from Dingli when Gaetan Mifsud served Andrea Anastasi in the area and S Lucia keeper Elton Camilleri foiled him with a timely sortie.

St Lucia reacted and Andre’ Genovese served Andre’ Ciancio with a through ball but Dingli keeper Marius Muscat saved his shot from outside the area.

Jean P Micallef was fouled on the left flank and after the free kick by Luke Galea, Gaetan Mifsud headed out from inside the area. Paul Micallef floated a perfect ball in the area from a free kick and James Fenech back-headed the ball to his keeper, risking an own-goal, but Camilleri was on the alert and saved the ball.

In their next action Dingli opened the score in the 19th minute when Mifsud floated a high ball in the area from a free kick and Micallef scored with a header.

Then St Lucia’s Ciancio pounced on a defensive indecision, outsped two opponents but saw Muscat saving his close-range shot.

Four minutes before the break Dingli doubled the score as Paul Micallef dribbled past a defender on the right flank and he scored with a strong cross-shot past a helpless Camilleri.

There were only five actions worthy of note in the second period. Two minutes after the restart St Lucia reduced the gap as Kirsten Curmi served Kyle Sultana on the right flank who, after advancing, scored with a lobbed ball.

In a Dingli attack, Galea served Anastasi in the area and Camilleri foiled him with a perfect timely sortie.

Dingli re-established their two-goal lead on the hour through Luke Galea who scored from inside the area after a Jean P Micallef perfect high ball in the area from a free kick. 

Although leading by two goals Dingli kept trying but could not add further goals to their tally.

In the second minute of added time the referee ordered St Lucia coach Joe Attard off the bench and he tried to assault him and was held back by the St Lucia players. The referee then signalled the end of the game.

A very poor standard game with very few actions worthy of note during the whole 70 minutes.

The St Venera youngsters were slightly better than Kalkara. The Yellow/blues are now in third position on seven points from four games while Kalkara are still pointless after six games.

St Venera opened the score after only three minutes when Martin Vella served Keith Schembri with a through ball. The latter outsped a defender and scored with a low shot past Kalkara keeper Stefan Farrugia after entering the area.

In Kalkara’s first attack after eight minutes Liam Carter served Ryan Mifsud in the area but St Venera keeper Joel Xuereb foiled him with a timely sortie. Then Lepol Abela served Schembri on the left flank who after entering the area the ball hit the near post from his shot and was cleared to safety.

Kalkara created the last two actions before the break. Carter served Chris Grima on the right flank and the ball missed the upright as he tried his luck from outside the area and after Clayton Debono was fouled outside the area Carter drove over the bar from the free kick.

St Venera started on the attack in the second half. Vella served Schembri in the area and after his shot was partly cleared, Ryan Grech drove over the bar from the rebound.

Ismail Alfatah served Kersten Cassar with a through ball in the area but Farrugia foiled him with a timely sortie.

Kalkara reacted and St Venera keeper Francesco Bugeja saved in two attempts a well-taken free kick by Carter. After a well-taken flag kick by Kurt Agius the ball was partly cleared and Carter drove over the bar from the rebound.

In the 58th minute St Venera were denied by the woodwork when after a run down the left flank by Schembri he crossed the ball to Cassar in the area and the ball hit the near post with Farrugia beaten before being cleared to safety.

Kalkara tried to save the game near the end. Ryan Mifsud served Jurgen Gauci in the area and Bugeja saved his close-range shot . Then Mifsud was fouled on the right flank, Carter served Agius in the area from the free kick but he headed over the bar.
