Without any doubt it was a very successful 2010 for Gymstars. Not only because of its efforts to promote the sport of gymnastics with high quality international competitions organised by the club, but most effectively with the upward trend being maintained by the club’s gymnasts who managed to achieve some very excellent results.

After the encouraging results of last July during the first international competition by the club at its premises in Tarxien, Gymstars continued their progress with another fruitful experience, obtaining more good results in the last international competition held last December.

The competition attracted high level athletes from the Isle of Man, Luxembourg, Monaco, Wales, Scotland and several English clubs.

This was the reward that Gymstars athletes got for the great efforts and hard intensive training they did under the watchful eye of their dedicated coaches.

For the first time during the competition, a Team Event was held and here Gymstars, with its first team, achieved a creditable result - the silver medal - through the ability of Kirsty Caruana, Nicole Pace and Adriana Zammit, the trio that won that historic bronze medal at the last Small Nations Games in Monaco. 

Their performance, finishing after the Wales team, was highly praised by all and the points tally surpassed the MQSs established by the Malta Olympic Committee for the Small Nations Games. 

The Isle of Man team finished third.

Gymstars had another satisfactory result when the young team of Suzanne Buttigieg, Claire Azzopardi, Sana Grillo and Sarah Parnis won the Team competition for the young athletes beating good quality teams.

Apart from the team competitions, Gymstars athletes showed their potential individually. Mia Vickery won her category with great authority winning the overall medal and also more gold in the four apparatus - vault, bars, beam and floor.

Individually in the higher category, Kirsty Caruana won the gold medal on vault and floor and was also third on bars. Nicole Pace also impressed with second place on vault and third on beam, while Adriana Zammit continued her progress in winning bronze on vault.

All the other Gymstars members achieved good results.  In D Category, 7-9 years, Sana Grillo secured the best performance and stole the limelight winning gold on floor, bars and vault, second on beam and finishing first overall. 

In the D category, 10-13 years, Suzanna Buttigieg was the most successful, finishing first overall after placing first on beam and second on vault, floor and bars. Claire Azzopardi was second overall and won gold on floor and vault and third place on bars, whilst Sara Paris was third on floor.

For the future, Gymstars will keep encouraging their athletes. The enthusiasm shown and the willingness to learn and improve is what motivates the coaches to do more to sustain and improve the high level achieved so far. 

Gymstars are looking forward for the next MOC Island Games and Youth Commonwealth Games.
