Bank of Valletta is supporting the upgrading of facilities (photo) at the Ta’ Qali Basketball Pavilion through its long-term collaboration with the Malta Basketball Association.

New dressing rooms for players and officials will be constructed to provide better facilities for players before and after matches.

Frank Camilleri, Secretary General of the Malta Basketball Association gave Edward Muscat Azzopardi, Head Marketing and Bank of Valletta and members of the media a tour of the upgraded facilities.

“The aim of this project is two-fold” said Mr Camilleri addressing all present. “Better facilities for the players will induce a better performance on the court. A higher level of the game will attract more visitors to the pavilion and increase the popularity of this sport”.

He said that the global expenditure for the upgrading of the MBA’s facilities is estimated to reach about €500,000, most of which will be paid by Government, as work on the project is being done by government workers.

The project includes the construction of dressing rooms, an administration block, public toilets and a refreshment outlet, all within the Hangar area, which will also include the court and the stands which will be lifted about two feet to avoid flooding when heavy rains are experienced.

“Bank of Valletta is a major supporter of sporting initiatives on the Maltese Islands”, said Mr Muscat Azzopardi. “We believe in the potential of the Maltese athlete and that providing better training and playing conditions is conducive to better performances both on a national and also on an international level”.
