Parliamentary Secretary Chris Said must be desperate for votes to propose as costly a project as an underwater tunnel to link Gozo. Hell, the government has not even found the cause of the leak in the (above the sea) Sta Venera tunnel. Are we to trust the PN with a tunnel under the sea?
And Transport Malta would not spend a piffling few thousands to build a footbridge over Mriehel bypass, to make a safer crossing for residents, because of the cost. But Dr Said wants to build a tunnel under the sea – how did he arrive at his costing of €120 million? Is he an engineer, apart from being a lawyer? Who does he think he is fooling?
If the Gozitans want to study in Malta, they should find accommodation here to cut their travelling time. They get enough subsidies to make that possible. I have heard of no tunnel, or bridge, proposal to link Tasmania with mainland Australia. And workers in France, the UK, Italy, Australia and similar countries travel much longer for their work every day than the few miles separating Gozo from Malta.
