I wonder if GonziPN and his cohorts are following the happenings in Tunisia, Egypt, Syria and Yemen. The people of these countries have had enough and after many years of putting up with corruption and fat cats getting fatter the citizens’ tempers flared.
We do remember our forefathers having had enough when on 7 June 1919 they protested against the rise in the cost of bread and during this show of dissatisfaction three of these brave Maltese lost their lives and another 50 were injured by the bullets of the British rulers.
In 2010/2011 not just the price of bread went up, but also the cost of gas, petrol, diesel, electricity, water, milk… etc… etc…
“Smoke without fire” (corruption without proof) is rife. To add insult to injury the average taxpayer / pensioner has been granted a €1.16 per week Cost Of Living Adjustment (COLA without the COCA)! However our “hard-working” politicians took it upon themselves to award themselves a hefty 70% honoraria! I cannot understand what honour has got to do with this!
Lucky for GonziPN the island is at present embroiled in the question of “to divorce or not to divorce”. Austin Gatt stated that if his party were to vote for the introduction of divorce, he would resign from Parliament. I bet there would be quite a lot of Maltese who would shed a few (crocodile) tears if he does stick to his word… I wonder if his boss would be one of them!
While I do not condone the violence which is occurring in these Middle Eastern countries, I do believe that the Maltese should rise above party politics. They should do away with the PL and the GonziPN flags, grab hold of the Red and White Banner and march upon Castille as one people just as our forefathers did on Sette Giugno 1919!
