Pieta were the much better outfit during the game and fully deserved the verdict. Following this game they are now in second place on 28 points from 12 games while Birkirkara are in eighth position on 12 points from 13 games.

The firat action was created by Pieta when Clive Gauci served Luke Tabone on the right flank who, after crossing the ball in the area, found no takers.

The reaction by Birkirkara was immediate. Andrea Curmi served Russell Gatt De Gabriele with a through ball on the right flank and Pieta keeper Matthew Grech partially saved his shot from outside the area and the ball was cleared away by a defender.

In Pieta’s next attack in the 27th minute they opened the score as Luke Tabone won a loose ball outside the Stripes area and after advancing he scored a beauty with a rising shot past a helpless keeper Dylan Galea.

In another Stripes’ attack Gatt De Gabriele served Zammit in the area and the ball was deflected to a corner after his shot.

The last two actions before the break were created by Pieta. From a well-taken flag kick by Gauci the ball was partly cleared outside the area and Christian De Gabriele drove over the bar from the rebound and Rodney Grixti served Gauci in the area and with only Galea to beat he drove over the bar from a very ideal position.

Pieta managed to add three further goals after the resumption.

The score became 2-0 in the 47th minute. After a run down the right flank by Tabone, who outsped two opponents in the process, he crossed the ball in the area to Matthew Theuma who scored with a grounder, and a minute later it became 3-0 when Theuma served Tabone in the area who scored with a low shot.

Pieta resumed with their pressing and they scored a fourth goal in the 54th minute through Karl Micallef who scored with a header after a well-taken flag kick by Gauci.
