Moral Values… what moral values?

It appears that according to certain dissident PN backbenchers, moral values have always been at the core of PN principles, despite the fact that over the years on the many occasions when their party’s moral substance was put to the test it failed miserably.

Past and present records show that they have been far from virtuous and, in fact, a far cry from what decent people understand as being moral probity.

I am sure that the real reason why PN backbenchers today cite moral values is only an attempt to curry favour with their local constituents and not because they are ignorant of the national socio-political events of the past six decades or so, whenever the PN as the party in opposition invariably boycotted or vetoed every single progressive and magnanimous parliamentary bill in process of enactment by incumbent socialist labour governments.

PN Members of Parliament like Jean-Pierre Farrugia and Franco Debono feign bewilderment when their party commits serious blunders, as for example in the case of the power station tender and lately the increase in the MPs’ honoraria. Of course, their indignation is shared by the great majority of the Maltese this time for real and for simple obvious reasons that stem from the sheer incredibility of these sordid situations that will surely remain indelible for posterity.

Hypocrisy has been the hallmark of the PN since its very inception and this trait is reflected in every single issue that crops up from time to time, such as the latest one about divorce legislation. Therefore it comes as no surprise that its leaders have been constantly immersed in this double predicament, which literally knows no bounds, throughout their tenure in office.
