Malta Independent Tuesday, 8 February 2011, 00:00 Last update: about 15 years ago

Birkirkara central defender Andrei Agius, Sliema’s midfielder Clayton Failla and Andrew Cohen, Hibernians striker, were yesterday named by national coach John Buttigieg in his 18-man squad for the friendly against Switzerland tomorrow evening.

The three players did not form part of the squad which had made the trip for the European Championship qualifier against Croatia last November.

Missing from that squad for tomorrow’s match are Daniel Bogdanovic, John Hutchinson, Ryan Fenech and Massimo Grima.

The full squad is the following:

Goalkeepers: Justin Haber (Ferencvaros) and Andrew Hogg (Valletta FC).

Defenders: Andrei Agius (Birkirkara FC), Jonathan Caruana (Valletta FC), Joseph Zerafa (Birkirkara FC), Carlo Mamo (Marsaxlokk FC), Edward Herrera (Hibernians).

Midfielders: Roderick Briffa (Valletta FC), Clayton Failla (Sliema W.), Kevin Sammut (Valletta FC), Paul Fenech (Birkirkara FC), Gareth Sciberras (Marsaxlokk FC), Shaun Bajada (Birkirkara FC), Jamie Pace (Valletta FC).

Strikers: Ivan Woods (Floriana FC), Andre Schembri (Ferencvaros), Michael Mifsud (Qormi FC), Andrew Cohen (Hibernians FC).

Arsenal’s Johan Djourou

ruled out

Arsenal’s Johan Djourou will not be making the trip to Malta.

He scored one of the Gunners’ four goals in last Saturday’s 4-4 draw at Newcastle, but he limped off the field in the 48th minute after suffering an injury.

Swiss coach Ottmar Hitzfeld has called Francois Affolter of Young Boys to replace him.
