Weightlifting: Association To hold training camp at Cottonera Sports Complex next week

The Malta  Weightlifting Association will be holding a training camp in The Cottonera Sports Complex between 14 and 19 February.

This training camp will be run by Richard Markeng of Norway. This coach has a vast experience in weightlifting. He is the coach of Ruth Kasirye who will also be in Malta to train with the Maltese athletes. Her participation is expected to encourage and enthuse female athletes in this sport.

Ruth Kasirye was born in Uganda but in 1998 she transferred to Norway and started participating for this country.

She has managed to achieve some encouraging results for Norway; she has won a silver medal in the European Championships of 2007 and a bronze in the same championship for 2008. Her best world ranking position was the eighth place. She has deservingly carried the Norwegian flag in the last Olympics which were held in Beijing. She also managed to place seventh in the same Olympics.

The training camp will reach its climax when a competition will be held to select the athletes who will represent Malta in the European Small Nations tournament which will be held in Monaco in April.

The competition for the selection of the Maltese athletes will be held on Sunday 20 February at 10.15am. Everyone interested is very welcome to attend and admission is free.
