I refer to the letter titled ‘Madness Gone Madder’ (TMID, 3 February) by Mr Falzon related to the day’s topic of an underwater tunnel link to Gozo.
The subject of the tunnel has shifted from the practical and technical to the political field of play.
MP Chris Said should have had the decency and humility to refrain from quoting construction costs and technical detailing related to the levels and depth of excavation.
It is unbelievable that he is totally unaware or completely ignorant of the fact that these are purely highly professional considerations fit only for the mouths of specialists.
Any attempt at tasting, even worse chewing this heavy stuff by presumptuous lay people is highly lethal, particularly to those prone to rushing in where angels fear to tread.
Similarly, contributions related to feasibility and practical adaptability are also the sole exclusive province of experts, each according to his line of specialisation.
Imagine what the end result would have been had the UK/France channel tunnel been treated with the same light-heartedness by a few wielding some political power bent merely on gaining political mileage.
