San Gwann enjoyed the lion’s share of exchanges throughout the game and were more precise in their passing and movements.
The game was only one minute old when Attard keeper Keith Dimech saved the ball to a corner from a shot by Zack Camilleri after a cross from the right by Nickolai Muscat.
At the other end, Gian Borg served Paul Toledo with a through ball but Kristen Borg foiled him with a timely clearance.
After Camilleri was fouled on the right flank, Dimech turned the ball to a corner from the free kick by Muscat.
In an Attard attack in the 7th minute they opened the score as Wayne Attard served Toledo with a through pass who scored with a lobbed ball past San Gwann keeper Dean Sciberras.
San Gwann reacted and Camilleri released Stefan Strojonavic on the right flank who then crossed to Luke Zammit but the latter failed to get his head to the ball when well-placed in the area.
In the 17th minute San Gwann levelled matters with a choral move between three players. Camilleri served Andre’ Cachia on the left flank who in turn crossed to Strojonavic who scored with a header from inside the area.
In the first action after the restart, Strojonavic served Camilleri on the right flank and Dimech managed to neutralise the ball from his cross.
In the 46th minute Attard came very close to a second goal when Gian Borg, after beating two defenders saw Sciberras diving to save his effort from the left edge of the area.
San Gwann scored a second goal in the 47th minute when Luke Zammit dribbled past an opponent on the right flank and crossed to Cachia in the area who scored with a close-range shot.
Attard were denied by the woodwork in the 48th off a freekick by Matthew Cassar.
The score became 3-1 in the 61st minute when Camilleri dribbled past an opponent in the goal area and crossed to Strojonavic who shot past Dimech obtaining a personal brace and his side’s third goal.
