I write to express my frustration about the state of roads in my neighbourhood − il-Blata l-Għolja, Mosta. The roads have never been properly built since paying our road contribution almost 20 years ago. They have been haphazardly done as no foundation was built and only a thin layer of asphalt was laid over bare rock and soil.
It seems that this neighbourhood has been forgotten completely by the powers that be, with regard to road surfaces in the last two decades. The first spattering of rain washes away the effort that goes into random patching in some of the roads. Subsequently, these roads are comparable to that of a war zone. Given the state of these roads, with potholes that are completely invisible to the naked eye when it rains, the upkeep of vehicles turns into a nightmare of expensive repairs, obviously without the possibility of receiving any due compensation. The attached photos testify the horrendous ordeal that we residents have to go through every day. The width of certain potholes measures a whopping six feet and are at least two and a half inches deep. I am jealous of the countryside roads at nearby Chadwick Lakes, which are in much better state than the ones in Blata l-Għolja.
I hope for the better.
