Dingli and St Andrew’s settled for a draw after an interesting scoreless draw.

To be fair the first half was a drab affair with the Saints always having the upper hand. The second half was very interesting with both sides in search of the decisive goal. Both came close with the Saints hitting the post twice and Dingli once.

The result can be considered a fair one between two sides in the middle of the table, but the Saints deserved something better.

St Andrew’s were the better team in the first part of the first half. They took their opponents by storm in the opening minutes and could have taken the lead after only two minutes when a Ben Diacono cross was met by Declan McAvoy whose header was brilliantly saved by Jeffrey Farrugia.

Minutes later the Saints went close again with an Akanua move that sent Michael Grima face to face with the opposing goalkeeper, but the Dingli custodian saved his side with another great save.

After this initial fury Dingli started to get more in the game, with Shaun Tellus standing out in midfield and with Leontiev Konda having another good performance in midfield.

Dingli had some attempts from the edge of the area through Charlon Sammut and Clayton Caruana, but all attempts missed the target.

At the start of the second half St Andrews had another golden opportunity with Faisal Anakua again putting Michael Grima all alone in front of goal, but yet again the Saints’ striker was denied by goalkeeper Farrugia.

On 56 minutes St Andrew’s deserved much better when a Michael Valenzia scorcher beat Farrugia but the ball smacked against the crossbar. Both sides were now playing more in attack as both defences started to lose their grip on the attackers.

Fifteen minutes from time Dingli had their first real danger and were very unlucky when Sammut passed towards Clayton Caruana who beat Carandente with an angled shot that was stopped by the upright. Five minutes from time the Saints went close again with a good Michael Grima effort sailing over the bar. A minute later Faisal Anakua’s lob beat Farrugia but the ball hit the crossbar.

In stoppage time Dingli’s Kurt Farrugia was sent off for dissent.
