Basketball: Clubs Show intention to resume competition

Malta Independent Thursday, 24 February 2011, 00:00 Last update: about 13 years ago

In a letter to the President of the Malta Basketball Association, the top five clubs have expressed their intention to continue all competitions in the men’s category. These have been postponed for the past few weeks.

The five clubs said they had agreed to continue and honour all the fixtures in all competitions notwithstanding any decision taken by the protest board and/or any subsequent appeal in the case instituted by Siggiewi Basketball Club following the game played between said club and Luxol Basketball Club on 29 January 2011.

The clubs also requested the President’s Council to formally declare the games which Luxol Basketball Club player Robert Azzopardi must not play following his suspension.

Furthermore the five clubs requested the President’s Council to set forth a proposal for a schedule of games in order to best set out the way forward to play those games which have been missed. This proposal, however, must then be agreed on by all five clubs.

The five clubs also agree that they are willing to resume all competitions within 72 hours of an official confirmation by the President’s Council.

The letter was signed by David Agius (Siggiewi BC), Ray Cuschieri (Loyola Basketball), Marcel Pisani (Athleta), Alfred Pace (Luxol Basketball Club) and Anthony Vella (Rabat Depiro).
