The first period belonged to Gudja United who dictated the proceedings for long stretches.

Gudja went close early on through a lob by Ndayi Kalenga which was cleared off the goal line by Xghajra’s defender Marjos Muscat and then a shot by Elvin Gauci just missed the target.

In the 20th minute Gudja were unlucky when a Trevor Thomas free-kick hit the upright and from the rebound Elton Bugeja hit wide when all alone infront of goal.

Six minutes later Gudja were once again close as a Peter Paul Sammut headed attempt was blocked on the goal line by Ryan Farrugia as Xghajra responded in the 33rd minute through Daniel Axisa who shot just wide from a cross by Gordon Borg.

Before the end of the first-half Gudja were denied by Xghajra’s keeper Danny Scicluna off a Trevor Thomas crosshot.

After the change of ends Gudja United dominated the proceedings and after just five minutes they broke the deadlock through a low shot by Ndayi Kalenga following a pass by Elton Bugeja.

Xghajra were close through Ali Manaf with Gudja having efforts by Trevor Thomas and Peter Paul Sammut which just missed the target.

Xghajra were denied by Xerxen on two occasions off efforts by Christian Magro but after wasting a clear opportunity through Trevor Thomas, Gudja increased their lead on 75 minutes through Ndayi Kalenga from a cross by Thomas.

In the 82nd minuta Ndayi Kalenga notched his personal hat-trick and four minutes later the Gudja striker got yet another goal to make it 4-0.

Then Gudja hit the post off a Leslie Burke free-kick but a minute from time Gudja scored a fifth goal through Peter Paul Sammut.

Swieqi U.-Mtarfa FC 2-0

The opening phase of the match resulted in the midfield sector but gradually Swieqi gained the upper hand in the midfield sector and were close in the 18th minute through Victor Kamara who headed just wide from close-range.

Then a shot by Mauro Desira was well saved by James Borg but on 23 minutes Swieqi took a deserved lead through a low shot by Fabien Debono following a through pass by John Debono.

Mtarfa failed to react with Swieqi continuing to push forward and on two occasions were once again close through Victor Kamara and Eric Sciberras.

Mtarfa tried to react after the break but it was Swieqi who went close on two occasions through John Debono and Victor Kamara.

In the 60th minute a Michael Ciappara free-kick was punched away by Mtarfa’s keeper James Borg and six minutes later Mtarfa could have easily drawn level but their striker Francesco Azzopardi all alone infront of goal shot straight into Swieqi’s keeper George Edwards.

In the 69th minute Swieqi practically sealed the issuec with Fabien Debono’s second goal, having taken advantage from a mistake by the Mtarfa keeper.

Mtarfa’s final efforts to obtain at least a consolation goal were well controlled bv the Swieqi defence.

Pembroke Ath-Ghaxaq FC 3-0

The first half was played in terrible weather conditions with Ghaxaq gaining the initiative early on and were twice very close through Bronwen Bugeja and Bjorn Dalli.

In the 15th minute Pembroke replied through a shot by Jean Claude Borg which was blocked by an Ghaxaq defender as Ghaxaq came back through shots by Mohammed El Gheddar and Donald Agius which were saved with difficulty by Pembroke’s custodian Jean Pierre Debattista.

In swift counter-attacks Pembroke twice went close through Dyan Azzopardi but they managed to open the score in the 31st minute through a low shot by Jean Claude Borg following a personal effort.

In their immediate reaction Ghaxaq were denied by Debattista off a point-blank shot by Bjorn Dalli and just before the break Pembroke missed an open goal scoring opportunity as Dyan Azzopardi, all alone in front of goal, shot wide off the near post.

After the change of ends Pembroke gained the initiative and after just four minutes they wasted a clear opportunity Dyan Azzopardi.

Then the same player, undoubtedly the star of the match, was twice denied certain goals by Ghaxaq’s goalkeeper Ludvic Fardell and in the 75th minute a free-kick taken by Junior Sank just missed the target.

At the other end Ghaxaq were close through substitute Frendrich Schembri but ten minutes from time Pembroke made it 2-0 as a long range range shot by defender Geoffrey Spiteri slipped through Fardell’s hands as he first appeared to have saved.

In the 85th minute the Athleta were given a penalty for a foul by Elton Caruana on substitute Daniel Calleja. Carlo Leonardi’s shot from the spot was partially saved by Fardell but Leonardi was in like a flash to shoot home for a 3-0 final scoreline.
