Gozo Snooker Cup 2010-2011 Comes to an end

Malta Independent Friday, 25 February 2011, 00:00 Last update: about 14 years ago

The Gozo Snooker Cup 2010-2011 organised by the Gozo Billiards & Snooker Club, within the Leone Philharmonic Society, comes to an end today.

Running uninterruptedly since last November, the cup final will once again see Jason Vassallo trying to defend the title he owns for these last five years, against upcoming international youth player Shaun Sultana.

The game, played on best out of 13 frames, will kick off at 4.30pm at the Leone Band Club - Aurora Theatre. It will then be followed with the trophy presentation ceremony. Trophies to the finalists of 4 divisions will be presented by Hon.Giovanna Debono, Gozo Minister and Dr Michael Caruana, President of the Leone Philharmonic Society which hosts the sports activity.

Embracing over 70 players, Gozitans in the majority, with some foreign residents and Maltese players, the Gozo Snooker Cup spanned over four months to make way for the Gozo Billiards League and the Gozo Snooker League 2011. These will keep the tables at the Leone Band Club occupied every evening until the end of the snooker season in mid-June.

In the meantime, the Gozitan club will keep in line with a decades’ old tradition, of organising a one-day tournament against the Anglo-Maltese League Club, whose turn it is this year to host the games in its Valletta Club. This one-day tournament will take place on the 19th March public holiday.
