Waterpolo: Karl Izzo Appointed club head coach at San Giljan ASC

San Giljan ASC yesterday announced that Karl Izzo (photo) has been appointed as the club’s head coach for the next two seasons and that training is now well underway under his guidance.

Presently Karl Izzo is also assistant coach to the Maltese national team and junior national team coach.

The club said that Izzo brings his knowledge of the game, experience and enthusiasm to San Giljan and that they are looking forward to the upcoming season with confidence that good results will be obtained so as to consolidate the club’s position among the elite of local waterpolo.

San Giljan have also confirmed that Edward Aquilina (Cocci) will no longer play for the club and that he has joined Neptunes while Claudio Spiteri De Barro will be a Marsascala player with players Matthew Pace and Ranier Scerri joining him on a one-year loan.

Marsascala’s Liam Grixti will be on loan at San Giljan while Mark Borg Spiteri returns to the club after a year on loan at Marsascala. Veteran Anthony Galea also returned to the club and will play alongside his son Andreas in what should be a first in local waterpolo.

San Giljan have also secured the services of junior national player Jean Claude Cutajar from Marsascala. Kai Dowling, after his positive and promising displays last season has signed a long-term contract with youngsters Kurt Mock, Keith Galea and Matthew Fenech also committing their future to the club.

Paul Fava has been appointed as the new team captain.
