Mqabba and Mosta did no harm to each other gaining a point each in a boring match to say the least. These sides could, and should do better than that shown yesterday, but instead the display offered left much to be desired.

The result puts Mqabba alone in second place, seven points behind the now runaway leaders Balzan, who should be one of the three sides to be promoted.

Mosta now are in third place, jointly with St George’s, a mere point behind Mqabba.

The first half was real disappointment from these sides fighting it out for a Premier League place. Both sides have to improve considerably if they make it to the top flight.

Scoring actions were rare with a Cakigi effort for Mqabba saved by the Mosta custodian, and a Claudio Calleja shot going well over the bar.

On their part Mosta, who had more of the ball in the first 45 minutes, had an attempt through William Camenzuli who hit the side netting from an acute angle.

The rest had nothing worth mentioning with both sides giving the ball away easily in midfield.

On the resumption Mosta went close with a Mark Brincat header going over the bar. Finally on 56 minutes a well orchestrated move by the Blues with Gilbert Martin passing towards William Camenzuli who tested Kris Calleja with a fierce low drive.

The match dragged on till the last minutes and eight minutes from time Mosta’s substitute Victor Osobu missed a glorious chance when he failed to control a good cross from Aboulezz. On the other end, Mazitelli passed the ball to the other substitute David Azzopardi but his shot was blocked by a Mosta defender.

The final whistle was a big relief for both sides and much more to those present.
