The Malta Basketball Association was in chaos yesterday evening after two top officials handed in their resignation with a third one expected to do so today.
Yesterday evening it was known that the vice president, Joe Depasquale Schranz, and the secretary general, Frank Camilleri, had resigned from their posts.
They are expected to be followed today by the resignation of the president, Magistrate Tonio Mizzi.
The turmoil started a few weeks ago when the Malta Basketball Association decided to halt the Men’s competitions after a disciplinary decision involving a Luxol player.
Siggiewi had protested over the ineligibility of a Luxol player who had been suspended five matches by the Disciplinary Commissioner but later had the decision cut down to just one match.
The clubs had to meet yesterday evening to decide whether to continue with the Bank of Valletta KO and the Louis Borg Cup next Sunday – this is because Luxol are not involved.
All matches in men’s first division competition has been cancelled over the past three weeks.
Other competitons, the men’s second division championship and the women’s championship were not affected by this issue and have benn going on regularly.
Today there will be an extraordinary general meeting during which Magistrate Mizzi is expected to hand in his resignation.
Magistrate Tonio Mizzi, Frank Camilleri and Joe Depasquale Schranz are to stay on as caretaker administrators until today week when the new Board is expected to be elected during a general meeting to be held at the association’s premises at Ta’ Qali.
