After this game Zebbug strengthened top spot on 31 points from 12 games and are on the way for promotion to Section B next season after beating Marsaxlokk who are still without any points from 12 games.

The first action came from Zebbug as they won a corner kick on the right flank which was well-taken by Philip Grech and Sean Mizzi headed slightly out from inside the area.

In a Marsaxlokk attack, Ionut Mifsud served Marlon Grech with a through ball but he drove over the bar from outside the area.

Zebbug drew first blood in the 9th minute when Grech won a loose ball just outside Marsaxlokk’a area and scored with a rising shot past helpless keeper Meljohn Barbara.

In another two actions by Zebbug, Mizzi was fouled outside the area and Barbara saved the free kick by Grech.

Michael Bonnici then missed the bar by inches from outside the area.

Enoch Seychell then floated a perfect ball in the area from a free kick and Thomas Grech headed out.

Before the break, Marsaxlokk keeper Barbara first saved a header by Mizzi after a Grech cross from the right and then a shot by the same player after a Bonnici cross from the left flank.

In the first action after the restart, Grech served Bonnici with a through ball in the area but Barbara foiled him with a timely sortie.

In the 43rd minute Zebbug doubled the score with a choral move between three players. Grech released Neil Grixti on the right flank who then crossed to Christian Farrugia in the area. The latter scored with a low shot.

The pressure from Zebbug after Brandon Calleja drove out from inside the area, Matthew Attard drove over the bar with only Barbara to beat. Barbara then saved a header by Bonnici after a Grech corner kick and Attard served Mizzi with a square pass and Barbara denied him with a diving save.

Marsaxlokk reduced the gap in the 61st minute. Thomas Grech served Manuel Bugeja with a short pass from a corner kick and after the latter returned the ball to Grech he scored with a lobbed ball from the left edge of the area past helpless Zebbug keeper Clayton Pace.

Zebbug put the issue beyond doubt four minutes from the end when Anthony Bugeja served Bonnici with a cross from the left and he shot past Barbara from inside the area.
