Turmoil At MBA

Malta Independent Saturday, 5 March 2011, 00:00 Last update: about 13 years ago

The turmoil as suggested by your correspondent, gave the impression that games came to a halt because of the Disciplinary Commissioner’s decision on a Luxol player that was reduced.

Luxol had appealed to have the player’s five games suspension reviewed.  The Appeals Board reduced the sentence to the minimum one game suspension, as it deemed that no violence was used in the player’s reaction.

Then came the ill fated game Luxol-Siggiewi, where the former won the game 51-49.

Siggiewi  lodged a protest against the result of the mentioned game as they contended the Appeals Board was irregular.

The MBA’s President Council sought legal advice from various lawyers, and was given the suggestion to re-hear the appeal.

The Second Appeals Board, now properly constituted, as per MBA statute, confirmed the First Appeals Board decision and further removed the one-match ban as well.

The Siggiewi protest was upheld and the board awarded a replay of the Luxol-Siggiewi game.

However, Luxol had the right to appeal to the Siggiewi Protest Board’s decision.

The Appeal’s Board annulled the Protest Board’s decision and confirmed that the result of the Luxol-Siggiewi match was to stand.

Furthermore we were not aware that the clubs had to meet to discuss the re-schedule of the games. It has to be noted that Luxol still feature in the Louis Borg Cup.
