What The PN is not seeing

Malta Independent Monday, 7 March 2011, 00:00 Last update: about 15 years ago

The Nationalist Party has taken a stand against the introduction of divorce. It says it is doing so to protect the family.

But it fails to realise that, by opposing the introduction of what should be a civil right, the PN is putting aside the needs of those couples whose marriage has failed and who would like to start afresh.

The PN is ignoring the plight of these people. They could be in the minority, but this should not deprive them of the right to find happiness.

By keeping divorce illegal, the PN is also aiding discrimination – in that it is allowing people to get divorced abroad, but not allowing them to do so in Malta. What the PN is doing is discriminatory towards couples who do not have the means to obtain divorce abroad.
