Table-football: Great Success for Maltese players in Belgium tournament

During last weekend in Mons Belgium, nine Maltese players took part with a certain amount of success in the Major of Mons.

In the Open category Massimo Cremona, Mark Gauci, Derek Conti, Hansel Mallia  and Mario Camilleri. Veteran category Joseph Mifsud, Jason Pisani and Alfred Fenech while in the Under 19 Angelo Borg. Valletta SC took part in the teams event.

Saturday was reserved for team events in which 42 teams took part.

European Champions F.illi Bari Reggiana won the Major were as in the final they beat Fiamme Azzurre 2-0. It was a game which saw Cremona figuring out for Reggiana while Mifsud and Mallia played for FIamme.

SC Fiamme Azzurre CM - ASD F.illi Bari Reggiana 0 - 2  (3-5 goals) 

Mifsud J. (MLT/fia) - Lamberti M. (ITA/reg) 0 – 0; Scatamacchia A. (ITA/fia) - Cremona M. (MLT/reg) 2 – 3; Napolitano N. (ITA/fia) - Bari S. (ITA/reg) 1 – 1.

Valletta SC took part but were eliminated in the group phase.

Cremona and Conti

semi finalists in Major Open

On Sunday the Individual category was held in which 116 players took part.

Massimo Cremona and Derek Conti reached the semi finals. On their way to the last four, Cremona beat Austrian Mattziger 1-0, Frenchman Jean Einsle 3-2, Italian teammate Saverio Bari 2-1 on shoots after 2-2 draw before being eliminated by eventual winner Beis of Greece 0-1.

On his part Conti eliminated Phil Dacey of Wales 3-1, Belgian David Fraiken 1-0, Mark Gauci 3-1 before losing to Wolfgang Leitner of Austria 1-4.

Hansel Mallia was eliminated in the last 64 stage by Marco Perazzo of Italy 1-2 while Mario Camilleri was dismissed in the group stages.

The Major Open category final was won by Beis beating Leitner 1-0.

Angelo Borg winner of

Under 19 category

Youth Angelo Borg won the Under 19 category. In the final he beat Dutchman Van Os 1-0.

In the semi final Borg had the better of another Dutch player, Willeijms, after the shoot out.

Thirteen players took part in this category.

Mifsud finalist in the Veterans

Joseph Mifsud made it through the final of the Veteran category where he lost the final 0-1 on a golden goal against Olivier Pere’ of Belgium.

In the semi final Mifsud had the better of Austrian Gunther Bambersky 1-0 on a golden goal.

Alfred Fenech and Jason Pisani were eliminated in the group stages of this category which attracted the participation of 50 players.
