The heading of the report, published in your paper of Sunday 6 March on the Paola Interchange Plan, was totally contrary to the facts and thus deceiving.
The bone of contention between the Paola Local Council and the GRTU was the location of two adjoining bays and bus shelters in front the GO plc office downwards. This site was strongly and unanimously opposed by all shop owners at an information meeting held at the council’s offices on 11 February, and at which the GRTU officials present agreed with the council’s proposal − that the plan of placing a double bay in front of GO should be abolished.
At a previous meeting held between the GRTU representatives and the MITC, and in the absence of the Paola local council, the two parties agreed to proceed with the staging of one bay instead of two, just in front of the GO plc premises. Such an imposed decision was strongly opposed by the council in the interests of the owners of shops adjoining the GO plc offices, which, contrary to what the GRTU had stated to the MITC, they opposed such staging.
After amicable discussions between the local council representatives and those from the ministry, it was finally agreed that the staging of the bays in front of the GO offices be moved to the opposite side of the square close to an existing bus shelter thus not creating unforeseen difficulties to the residents and the business community.
The writer of the heading of your article completely missed this point and gave undue credit to the GRTU instead of the Paola local council.
In fairness I must state the content of the report was almost accurate. The heading was deceiving.
