The Nationalist Party is sticking to its guns, and continues to speak against the introduction of divorce.

Only a few of its MPs have had the courage to speak out in favour of the minority of people who see divorce as a way out of their troublesome marriage. I just wonder whether there are others who have simply taken the party line so as not to appear closer to the Labour Party idea.

Well, they will have their conscience to contend with.

I just cannot understand the line of reasoning of the holier-than-thou people who are against the introduction of this civil right. Their arguments do not hold water. They say that the number of marriages that are breaking down is small – but, even if only one marriage had to break up, I still believe that the couple involved should have the right to start afresh.

Why such people want to impose their ideology on the rest of us is something that makes me mad. They can stay in their marriages, but they have no right to say what others have to do with their own lives.

It is a real pity that we are still discussing the subject in 2011. Divorce should have been made a civil right many years ago.
