Xghajra T -Mdina K. 0-2
Mdina Knights dictated the run of play throughout the first period and in the opening five minutes they were twice denied off a free-kick and a point-blank shot by Nicholas Micallef.
At the other end Xghajra had two efforts by Gordon Borg which just missed the target but gradually Mdina increased the pressure although they were rather ineffective in front of goal. They were close through Steven Pecorella, whose shot was saved with difficulty by Scicluna, but eight minutes before the break Mdina opened the score with a powerful shot by Peter Grima, who took advantage from a short clearance by the Xghajra defence.
After the resumption Mdina continued to be superior to their opponents and after three minutes they were denied by Xghajra’s keeper Danny Scicluna off a Nicholas Micallef free-kick.
In the 51st minute Mdina increased their lead as Nicholas Micallef finished off from a cross by Steven Pecorella. The Knights continued to create the better opportunities as they were again very close on three occasions through their promising striker Cachel Vella. Twelve minutes from time Xghajra’s captain Martin Portelli was booked for a second time and was sent off.

Swieqi U-Siggiewi 1-3
Siggiewi completely dominated the game during the first period and after just two minutes they were close as a Kim Buhagiar corner-kick was headed just over the bar by Mark Camilleri. At the other end Swieqi claimed a penalty but Siggiewi opened the score on 16 minutes when Roderick Farrugia headed in past Marmara from a cross by Harun Ahmed Muhamed.
In the 20th minute Siggiewi were denied by Marmara off a Jason Camilleri free-kick and two minutes later another Camilleri free-kick this time hit the crossbar. In the 26th minute Siggiewi increased their lead through Roderick Farrugia, who took advantage from an error by the Swieqi defence. Five minutes later Siggiewi added a third goal through a Melvin Agius inswinging corner-kick. Swieqi failed to react and just before the break Siggiewi were denied by Marmara off a Melvin Agius direct free-kick.
After the change of ends Swieqi shared the exchanges but it was Siggiewi who had the first opportunity through a shot by Jason Camilleri which was well saved by Ryan Marmara. In the 51st minute the Siggiewi keeper saved well to deny Mauro Desira and from the resultant corner-kick taken by Eric Sciberras, Swieqi reduced the arrears through Francois Mizzi.
In the 56th minute Siggiewi wasted a clear opportunity as Harun Ahmed Muhamed shot straight into Ryan Marmara when all alone in front of goal. Nine minutes later Jason Camilleri shot just wide from close-range. Swieqi reacted but they were rather ineffective in attack, while Siggiewi went close to scoring a fourth in a counter-attack late in the match through Harun Ahmed Muhamed
