The strong wind at Luxol ground rendered ball control very difficult and actions worthy of note were very few and also shots at goal. Both sides committed the gravest of mistakes by playing long and high balls.

Following this result Floriana are in 8th place on 20 points from 16 games while Hamrun are in 9th place on 19 points from the same number of games.

The Spartans created the first action when the ball was cleared away following a well-taken corner kick by Luke Grech.

Floriana then mounted two actions in a row. Claude Farrugia served Matthew Degiorgio on the left flank and a defender cleared the ball to a corner which was taken by Lukain Brincat and Farrugia headed over the bar.

Emmanuel Briffa then served Degiorgio in the area and Hamrun keeper Jean C De Battista foiled him.

The Spartans reacted and Jacob Rakban served Ryan Spiteri with a through ball in the area and Floriana keeper Jurgen Borg denied him .

Hamrun came very close to open the score in the 27th minute when Zerafa was fouled just outside the area and from the free kick by the same player the ball whizzed past the bar with Borg beaten.

In the last action before the break Farrugia served Brincat in the area and De Battista once again foiled him with a perfect timely sortie.

In the second half, Isaac Galea, grandson of ex-Floriana defender Charlie, served Farrugia with a long throw-in the area from the left flank but he drove off target. De Battista then saved a shot from outside the area by Farrugia.

The last three actions before the end were all created by Hamrun. Zerafa served Spiteri on the right flank and after Borg partly palmed away his cross the ball was cleared by a defender.

After a run down the right flank, Spiteri he crossed the ball in the area which was partly cleared and Diego Zammit missed the upright from the rebound.

Five minutes before the end Hamrun came close again to open the score when Melvin Busuttil was fouled on the left edge of the area and from the free kick by Azzopardi the ball missed the far post by inches.
