Allow me to comment on the letter entitled “Floriana residents’ traffic nightmare continues” by correspondent Noel Galea Bason (in another section of the media on 12 March), most especially the phrase… “Residents who have the Floriana council sticker on their windscreen should have the right to access the streets closest to their own homes without having silly altercations with the police. It is disgraceful how ‘Transport Malta’, the police and the local council have handled the matter so far...”, by pointing out that for the sake of accuracy and precision, the Floriana local council always emphasises to high-ranking police officials at the Valletta police station that all registered Floriana residents should have the right to have access to their homes whether during public events or not.
Unfortunately enough, agreements made are repeatedly being broken by some policemen on duty, thereby causing Floriana residents to suffer, understandably, immense frustration as they are being prevented from reaching their homes by car.
This is taking place because the Floriana local council managed to successfully organise “Malta’s New Year’s Eve Celebration” on Friday 31 December 2010 in St Anne Street, Floriana.
